Restaurante Avó Maria - Porto

The restaurant is on the promenade on the banks of the Douro River. The location is fantastic with a great view of everything happening on the river and promenade. The menu selection was very good and the food was delicious. The staff were all very friendly and very helpful

Restaurant looked lovely, with gorgeous views of the river. Our waiter didn’t speak very good English so ordering a medium rare streak was a slight challenge. After waiting for 50 minutes, I asked how much longer our food would be. They had clearly forgotten our order, so it finally came out about 20 minutes later. I queried where my port wine sauce was and the waiter told me it was on the steak but it’s a plain steak I said. Apparently, the sauce was “invisible”! I think there was a loss of translation somewhere here, but the waiter was right as there was no sauce! So I asked if I could have some to pour on my plain steak. Unsurprisingly, it never came. I wish we had explored more restaurants on the Ribeira and avoided this tourist trap. Obviously it was also over priced.

Came here many times before and it never disappoints. Food and the service is great. The location is wonderful on the Ribeira close to the water. I and my parents will definitely come back again.

Custo x benefíciosç deixa a desejar um pouco, uma vez que se pode, como eu, ter que aguardar um tanto para atendimento. Ademais, a localização é muito boa, e a comida honesta, apesar de, como falei, um pouco cara (cerca de 16 euros média/prato).

Já tinha visitado este restaurante em Janeiro de 2011 e, recentemente, durante a minha última visita ao Porto enquanto turista, andava pela Ribeira em busca de um local para jantar e veio-me à lembrança este restaurante e de como na altura tinha saído satisfeita.Desta vez, e como a noite estava muito agradável, podemos desfrutar da esplanada com a vista sobre o rio e um senhor a tocar e interpretar boa música.O ambiente estava assim criado para uma boa experiência.Os empregados apesar de bastante atarefados nunca deixaram de nos atender com simpatia e rapidez. As doses eram em boa quantidade e passíveis de dividir sem deixarmos de ficar satisfeitos.
